Przytaczanie rozkazów i próśb

Kiedy chcemy przytoczyć rozkaz lub prośbę, możemy użyć czasownika „tell” lub podobnego ze zdaniem wprowadzonym przez to: He told me to go away. Konstrukcja to: czasownik + dopełnienie dalsze + zdanie wprowadzone przez to. Dopełnieniem dalszym w tym przypadku jest osoba, do której mówimy. Oto inne czasowniki, których możemy użyć w rozkazach i prośbach: command, order, warn, ask, advise, invite, beg, teach, forbid.

Sugestie

Sugestie przytaczamy najczęściej za pomocą czasowników suggest, insist, recommend, demand, request, propose, po których występuje zdanie wprowadzone przez that. That i should nie są obowiązkowe w tych zdaniach, tak jak pokazane jest to w dwóch pierwszych przykładach poniżej. Trzeba zwrócić uwagę, że po czasownikach suggest, recommend, propose może występować rzeczownik odczasownikowy w celu wyeliminowania dopełnienia dalszego (adresata sugestii); w ten sposób sugestia staje się bardziej uprzejma. Takie zastosowanie rzeczownika odczasownikowego przedstawione jest na przykładach czwartym i piątym poniżej.
